Hello and welcome to our weekly newsletter, where I talk about what's been going on in investment markets and what to look out for in the days and weeks ahead.
In last week’s newsletter, I explained how the price of natural gas had soared in 2021, especially over the last couple of months. Last week the price of natural gas hit an all-time high meaning that the price had risen sixfold so far in 2021. The surge in the price of energy caused bond and equity markets last week to weaken. The bond yields rallied as inflation expectations soared and it meant that the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield for example hit 1.55% which is the highest level since May.
