Is the tech tremor turning into a market earthquake?
Hello and welcome to our weekly newsletter, where I talk about what's been going on in investment markets and what to look out for in the days and weeks ahead.
This trading week has been slightly shortened in USA due to markets being closed for Martin Luther King Day. However, when U.S. markets did reopen on Tuesday the sell off in USA treasuries was reignited.
If you recall last week I explained the rally in bond yields, as investors placed bets on high inflation and therefore higher interest rates had sparked an equity market tremor. The epicenter being USA technology stocks. By that point the NASDAQ 100 which is a very tech heavy index was down around 2.54% at that point year to date. The S&P 500 was down almost 1%. The TSX was down 2%. In Europe, equities were broadly flat, but UK assets were the standout performers up 2.26%. To read the full article click here.
